On a recent episode of Full Access, hosts Debbie Garner and Wilton Cleveland sat down with Sean Litton, the Executive Director of the Technology Coalition, to discuss its mission and how tech companies all over the world are working together to fight against the online sexual abuse and exploitation of children.

Who Is The Technology Coalition?

The Tech Coalition is a global alliance of leading technology firms, such as Google, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Zoom, TikTok, Twitter, and more, that have come together to combat online sexual abuse and exploitation of children. Together, the Tech Coalition works to “…inspire, guide, and support industry members, helping them work together to protect children…” They achieve this by aligning the global industry so that they can pool knowledge and upskill members. This means that even the smallest startups who join the Technology Coalition have access to the exact same level of knowledge and technology companies as the biggest tech companies in the world.

During his interview, Litton also mentions that the Technology Coalition offers a mentorship program. The mentorship program connects new companies interested in a member with the Tech Coalition who want to coordinate with law enforcement, with a veteran member to share their experience working with the Coalition.

Why The Technology Coalition Is So Important

The internet is a powerful tool. But like all powerful tools, it can be, and it is, abused. It’s important that technology and groups like the Technology Coalition exist to detect different types of child sexual abuse material across the web and report it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). It’s important that we all work together to detect and stop predators from engaging with children through online platforms, streaming, videos, and more.
